The South cannot be contained by national borders.

The U.S. South is “marked by polylingual, transnational, and economic connections to a 'global South' running from Southeast Asia to Africa to Latin America. None of this is new.”

— Professor Matthew Pratt Guterl

The Internationalist Law Center is building a movement that uses litigation, policy advocacy, and community organizing to create accountability for illegal government investments of public funds (i.e. taxpayer dollars and pension funds) that defund and displace communities in the U.S. South and facilitate human rights violations in the Global South.

Our public-finance accountability work ensures that illegally invested public funds are returned to divested communities in the U.S South to fund local needs as determined by local residents, and builds the internationalist understanding that what happens in the U.S. South and Global South are intimately connected.
